  • Ningbo's new laboratory system takes shape

Recently, Ningbo Oriental University of Science and Technology witnessed excitement in its research department as the Provincial Science and Technology Department announced the recognition results for provincial key laboratories in 2024. ‌The laboratory of the Provincial Solid-State Battery Technology, led by Professor Sun from the Engineering Department, was successfully approved.‌

This laboratory has gathered a strong team, including 3 academicians, 5 national-level talents, 4 provincial-level talents, with a total of over 80 members. It boasts world-leading research facilities, covering 3,562 square meters of dedicated research space and equipped with cutting-edge equipment valued at over 30 million yuan.

“The laboratory aims to address national energy security and significant industrial development needs in Zhejiang Province, focusing on applications such as solid-state batteries, low-altitude economy, humanoid robots, and energy storage. It will concentrate on core technology bottlenecks and basic research in solid-state batteries.” said Sun.‌

Provincial key laboratories serve as the backbone of Ningbo's new laboratory system. With the recent recognition, Ningbo now has 19 provincial key laboratories, including 11 led by local research units.

In recent years, Ningbo has significantly strengthened basic scientific research, increased investment, and accelerated the construction of a new laboratory system with a tiered deployment of "national-provincial-city" key laboratories. ‌This system has basically taken shape, with 2 national key laboratories, 19 provincial key laboratories, and 74 municipal key laboratories (Class A) distributed across universities, research institutes, and leading enterprises.‌

These key laboratories are crucial platforms for conducting high-level research, gathering talents, sharing advanced equipment, and producing significant scientific achievements. They play a vital role in promoting the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation.

Key achievements include the launch of China's first high-altitude "seafood land farming" project in Liangshan, Sichuan; the development of a prototype of a bionic underwater vehicle, and the discovery of a new lithium battery positive electrode material.‌ The construction and improvement of this new laboratory system continue to consolidate the foundation of basic research and unleash powerful scientific and technological innovation forces in Ningbo.
