“Famous Sites” Open Day activities held On October 2, the National Day special event for the open day of “Famous Schools, Famous Institutions, Famous Museums, and Famous Enterprises” was held. 40 citizens and students followed a carefully planned route to discover in one stop Ningbo’s unique charm in culture, education, technology and industry. At the exhibition hall of Tu Youyou’s Former Residence, the rich physical exhibits and precious historical photos showcase Tu Youyou’s struggle for scientific truth and the discovery of artemisinin. “Previously, I only learned about Tu Youyou’s stories in my textbook, but after visiting her former residence in person, I felt that I gained a lot”, said Zhu Yuchen from Shounan First Primary School, who was deeply touched by Tu Youyou’s fearlessness for failures and persistent spirit. After drawing spiritual strength from this cultural landmark, visitors visited Ningbo University of Technology. Through professional lectures and on-site observations, they learned more about how universities can meet the needs of industries and deeply integrate theoretical learning with practical teaching in their educational model. Mr. Zhu, a citizen who participated in the activity with his son, said, “My son is very interested in robots. This activity has exposed him to knowledge that he cannot normally come into contact with, and deepened his understanding of the application of scientific and technological achievements.” Then the the group came to the Zhenhai Base of SINOPEC and visited in great interest the “Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Road”, the exhibition hall, the White Egret Garden, the ethylene project foundation site, the hydrogen refueling station, and the central control room of the second phase of the base. “The characters of ‘Zhejiang Zhenhai Middle School’ on the school gate were inscribed by Mr. Guo Moruo for the school in 1961”, explained the guide, when the visitors walked into Zhenhai Middle School to visit such places as the former residence of Zhu Feng, the Red Corridor, and the Lin Zexu Memorial Hall, experiencing the profound cultural heritage of this century-old prestigious school in cultivating outstanding students. “Although I grew up in Ningbo and I know all these places, I have not actually visited them. This event has provided us with a chance to perceive the city and has helped to plant the seeds of pursuing dreams in children’s hearts”, said Xue Jinjin, a member of the visiting group. As one of the important events of the 20th Ningbo Talent, Science and Technology Week, this open day event goes far beyond just “visiting”: through immersive experiences, it allows visitors to experience Ningbo’s soft and hard power from multiple dimensions, further stimulating their sense of identity and pride in Ningbo, and showcasing Ningbo’s excellent ecology for talents. |
